Exchange Programme
Daystar University is a member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU). This American-based organization has over 200 members among churches and universities worldwide. It provides numerous opportunities for students and faculty exchange.
Those interested apply to the office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic. The programme provides exchange students with an opportunity to experience learning in an African context, build relationships with African students, appreciate Africa?s rich cultural values and develop a deeper faith in God. The Coordinator of Collaborative Studies supervises the day-to-day activities of the students? exchange. It provides an in depth orientation programme that exposes the exchange students to the history and culture of Kenya through excursions and visits with Kenyan families
a. Student Exchange Programme
The Daystar student exchange programme is open to second and third year students. Fourth year students can only participate during their first semester of the final year. To qualify, students should be mature Christians with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.00 or above. They are also required to pay full tuition and boarding fees for a semester in Daystar, and be able to meet textbook and personal expenses including a return air ticket from the United States.
Students on Work Study must raise fees in cash or have the credit equivalent to meet their full tuition and boarding fees. Students must check with their respective heads of department to ensure that the courses they take in a US college are transferable to Daystar. All credits taken at the US institution appear on the student?s Daystar transcript as transfer credits, meaning they will not affect the GPA.
Students are required to return to Daystar at the end of the specified semester of study in the US. While in the US, students are required to conduct themselves according to the Daystar Code of Conduct and abide by the regulations of the institution attended. On return, students are required to submit a written report of their experience while in the US. Applications are made to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), through the Coordinator of Collaborative Studies. Written approval from a parent, guardian or sponsor and commitment to participate in the programme must accompany applications.
Kosin-Daystar Faculty and Student Exchange Programme
Daystar operates a faculty and student exchange programme with Kosin University, South Korea. Annually, five students and one Daystar lecturer participate in the programme. This exchange programme is open to second and third year students. To qualify, students must be mature with GPA of 3.00 or above. They are also required to pay full tuition and boarding fees for the year in Daystar, plus 10 percent administrative costs fee. Those interested apply to the office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (DVC), Academic through the office of the Coordinator Collaborative Academic Programmes (CAP).
Food for the Hungry GoEd programme
The University has a partnership with Food for the Hungry International (FHI) in the Go-Ed programme. FHI the NGO that runs the GoED programme is a Christian relief and community development organization which works to help alleviate physical and spiritual hunger worldwide, including East Africa. Students from Daystar join students from the United States in a life-changing semester in Uganda, Rwanda, and other African nations.
The highlight of Go ED is a hands-on practicum that students can use to fulfill their practicum requirements. This can take place in Ethiopia, Northern Kenya, Rwanda, or Uganda. In addition, students travel to Kigali to study issues of peacemaking and reconciliation in the context of the Rwandan genocide. In Kampala, they can also take courses such as Economic Development and African Literature.
Adding to the cross-cultural element of studying in another country, Daystar students, live, study, and minister alongside American university students. These brothers and sisters from opposite ends of the earth challenge and teach each other with their different perspectives. Daystar is one of five Go ED. partners and the only partner outside of the United States.
Other partners are George Fox University, Greenville College, Houghton College, and Huntington University.
This programme is open to second and third year students. To qualify, students must be mature students with a GPA of 3.00 or above. They are also required to pay US$3,000 for the semester. Textbooks and computers are provided by FHI. Those interested apply to the office of the DVC, Academic through the office of the Coordinator, CAP.
AICBE Programme
Daystar is a member of the Alliance for International Christian business Education, which enables students to do some, courses online. Courses offered online are advertised every semester. Students register for these courses in the office of the Coordinator, CAP.
b. Staff Exchange Programme
Visiting professors and senior administrative staff from reputable universities in the USA and other parts of the world come to Daystar University for varying periods of time. Many of them spend their sabbatical leave teaching or conducting research at Daystar.
Senior administrative staff visit Daystar University and spend time working alongside their counterparts in such areas as the Library or in the Office of Admissions and Records. These professionals bring into Daystar University experiences that enrich and enhance our institutional programmes.
As opportunities arise, both academic and senior administrative staff from Daystar University go to institutions in other parts of the world for similar exposure in teaching, research, or other experiential engagements. The experiences gained by our staff are seen as a very important aspect of their professional development. |
