[Nairobi Campus: April 29, 2026] The newly elected DUSA student leaders comprising DUSA Council and Congress were sworn into office at a colourful ceremony held at the DAC Auditorium, Daystar University Nairobi Campus.
The new DUSA Council comprises:
- President: Ms. Faith Beatrice Amuono -Nairobi Campus
- Deputy President: Mr. Kanyi Mwaura- Athi River Campus
- Governor, Athi River Campus: Mr. Odira Jack
- Governor, Nairobi Campus: Ms. Ebby Kibisu
- ISADU President: Mr. David Nvunabandi- Athi River Campus
- Secretary General: Mr. Gareth Oseko-Athi River Campus
- Treasurer: Ms. Faith William- Athi River Campus.
- Speaker: Brian Kimutai- Athi River Campus
- Clerk: Ms. Mourine Mumo- Athi River Campus
- Sergeant at Arms: Ms. Jardine Claire Kerubo- Athi River Campus.
Present to witness the swearing in ceremony was the University Management led by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Laban Ayiro, the DVC ARSA Prof. Samuel Muriithi, members of the University Management Board, the Dean of students Rev. Mutinda Musyimi, Legal officer Mr. Telvin Ambani, University Chaplain Rev. Miano Weche, Incoming DUSA and Outgoing DUSA Council and Congress members.
The Vice Chancellor Prof. Laban Ayiro said that leadership at Daystar University was not about positional equity but service and impact one creates.
He emphasized the D4D (Design for Delight) model, which calls individuals and leaders to deeply understand their peers and design meaningful solutions.
He underscored that leadership should be rooted in character, discipline and moral clarity, charging the newly elected leaders to lead with courage and wisdom while serving with excellence.
The DVC ARSA, Prof. Samuel Muriithi, called on the newly elected DUSA President to uphold equality in her leadership regardless of gender. He also urged the DUSA government to set their priorities right and focus on positive change by working as a team, to maintain open communication, and support the vision of the Vice Chancellor.
The outgoing DUSA President Mr. Lewis Sekento called on the newly elected leaders to lead with empathy, affirming that leadership is about diligent service and not physical structures.
“Leadership is not about the office but serving faithfully and passing the torch to those called next”, he noted.
He thanked the Vice Chancellor for his continuous support towards student welfare, charging the newly elected student leaders to pursue unity and cohesion amongst themselves as they begin their mandate.
The newly elected DUSA President Ms. Faith Beatrice Amuono committed herself to building on what was started by her predecessor, especially turning the Laban Ayiro Peter (L.A.P) Run into an impactful initiative. She acknowledged that this event was memorable, noting that as the first female President under the new DUSA Constitution, it marked a significant milestone for women.
To further encourage women in leadership, Ms. Amuono announced the launch of “Binti Jasiri” which will become an annual women empowerment platform. She further elucidated that her leadership will focus on promoting inclusive engagement among students, supporting initiatives which advance mental wellness, working in collaboration with the student body.
The Dean of Students, Rev. Mutinda Musyimi called on the newly elected leaders to demonstrate humility, accountability and uphold integrity. He cautioned the newly elected leaders against becoming proxies of hidden interests, urging them to make decisions guided by wisdom. He concluded his remarks by calling on the new DUSA leaders to lead with courage and uphold the values and vision of Daystar University.
The Legal Officer Mr. Telvin Ambani administered the oaths of office to the newly elected leaders as guided by Article 17 and Article 30 of the DUSA Constitution. The leaders took the oath of office as they pledged to promote and uphold the Constitution of the Daystar University Student Association without fear or favor, acting in the best interest of the student body and the University, in accordance with 1Corinthians 4:2: Moreover, it is required in stewards that one be found faithful" (NKJV).
The ECD Chair, Miss Lucia Ambugo, commended the students for conducting free and fair elections. She reminded the new leaders that they have been called to serve and not to rule.
The swearing in ceremony was preceded by an the election of the DUSA Council which took place on 17th April 2026 and the successful election of the Lower House, the Congress, on 10th April.
As the new leadership steps into their various roles, a shared sense of purpose, unity, and faith is already setting the tone for a promising chapter for 2026/2027.
In an interview with the INFOSPOT, Ms. Faith Beatrice Amuono underscored the importance of accountability by being present, honest, and always accessible. She emphasized that she did not want to be a leader who is only seen through announcements, but one who creates spaces where students can freely express themselves and feel heard through forums, regular check-ins, and open engagement.
She further affirmed her commitment to transparency, noting that she would openly communicate when things are working well and equally acknowledge when they are not, as students always deserve honesty.
Ms. Beatrice expressed her sincere gratitude to the students, noting that they had not only voted but had entrusted her with leadership, a responsibility she does not take lightly. She assured the student body of her commitment to serve, listen, and give her best for the benefit of all.
