[Nairobi - May 9, 2026] Daystar University officially welcomed the May 2026 Postgraduate cohort, comprising Masters and PhD students, during a Matriculation ceremony held at the Nairobi Campus.
The day commenced with verification of academic documents by the Office of the University Registrar, and opening of student accounts by the Finance Department
The students were treated to a welcome breakfast before attending the matriculation ceremony in the DAC Auditorium. The ceremony was graced by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Laban Ayiro, the DVC-ARSA Prof. Samuel Muriithi, the Principal Nairobi Campus, Prof. Michael Bowen, the Director Graduate School, Dr. Emmanuel Wanyonyi, members of the Management Board, Senate, Deans of Schools, Directors, Heads of Departments, and faculty members all adorned in their Academic gowns to symbolize their commitment to upholding academic standards.
In his opening remarks, the Director of Graduate School, Dr. Emmanuel Wanyonyi, defined the Graduate School as the academic hub for postgraduate studies, whose mandate focused on:
- Quality Assurance: Ensuring high standards in research and coursework.
- Defense Organization: Managing the defense of theses and dissertations .
- Policy Formulation: Creating frameworks specifically for postgraduate excellence.
Dr. Wanyonyi underscored commitment of the Graduate School's to promoting a collaborative culture between individuals and Schools through training and conferences aimed at building the research capacity of post-graduate students.
The Vice Chancellor Prof. Laban Ayiro welcomed the students to an institution with transformational experience, hailing Daystar University as a Christ-centred and value-driven university focused on developing servant leaders and ethical professionals. He elucidated that this transformation is achieved through academic excellence, spiritual formation, ethical leadership, and societal impact.
Prof. Ayiro stated that the University aimed to shape thought leaders, nation builders, ethical researchers, and Kingdom influencers. He challenged the students to pursue research with purpose and scholarship that solves real-world problems. He further called for strict academic integrity, urging students to avoid plagiarism, academic shortcuts, and intellectual dishonesty.
"We do not simply educate minds; we shape destinies," he remarked, charging the students to become scholars with wisdom and leaders with virtue.
The DVC-ARSA Prof. Samuel Muriithi highlighted the University's unique, holistic approach of integrating faith and learning as a Christ-centred institution, further assuring students of quality education supported by a strong curriculum, modern facilities, and highly qualified faculty. He noted that the goal was to produce researchers and employers who are effective communicators, decision-makers, global thinkers and solution givers.
The event climaxed with the Matriculation Ceremony facilitated by the DVC ARSA, followed by a charge by the Vice Chancellor. During this solemn rite, students signed the Declaration of Assent, formally committing themselves to the Daystar ethos and institutional values.
The orientation ended with breakout sessions where students met with their respective Deans and Directors. These sessions allowed for direct interaction and specialized guidance within their specific schools and institutes.
