The training was administered to a select group of senior academics, currently supervising, or expected to supervise, doctoral students.
Dr. Namai expressed his sincere gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Laban P. Ayiro, the DVC-ARSA Prof. Samuel Muriithi, Prof. Linda A. Nyondo-Mipando of Kamuzu University in Malawi, and Dr. Caroline Ayuya-Muaka, Director of Research, Innovation, Commercialization and Entrepreneurship, Daystar University, for their exemplary facilitation, mentorship, and coordination throughout the training.
He noted that the certification marks a significant milestone in his academic and professional journey and affirmed his commitment to applying the knowledge and skills acquired to effectively mentor and supervise doctoral students.
Dr. Namai also appreciated all those who contributed to the success of the programme and expressed optimism that he would make them proud through his continued service and dedication to scholarly excellence.
Among the topics covered during the 2-day event held from 18th to 19th June 2026 included recruiting, selecting and allocation of PhD candidates, supervisory relationships with candidates, internationalization of doctoral education, keeping research on track and monitoring progress, enhancing writing and publication skills, preparing for thesis defense, evaluation, and reflection.
The Vice Chancellor’s presentation on Supervising the Future was particularly insightful, focusing on excellence, integrity, quality and AI-enabled doctoral mentorship. Dr. Namai noted that other than preparing faculty for doctoral students’ supervision, the training provided a perfect forum for academic discourse on best practices in postgraduate supervision and teaching across the world.
The Infospot congratulates Dr. Namai on this remarkable achievement and wishes him the best as he continues to inspire and shape the next generation of researchers and scholars.
