Strengthening Research Ethics in the Global South

Introduction

Daystar University and the National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI) will host the 2nd Joint Annual Research Ethics Conference from September 28-30, 2022. This year's conference is themed: Strengthening Research Ethics in the Global South. It wil take place at Daystar University Nairobi Campus. The conference will be blended (Online and Physical).

Call for Abstracts

Institutional Scientific and Ethics Review Committee (ISERCs) have been established by governments, academic and research institutions to protect the rights of human subjects, animals, environment, research objects and researchers. It is thus expected that any studies being conducted are cleared from the ISERC before applying for the other relevant research permits. However, many researchers, graduate students, and scholars seem not to appreciate the value of ISERCs. In Kenya for example, one would obtain ethical clearance as a mandatory requirement for the acquisition of the National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI) permit. It therefore appears punitive to the researcher. This joint Daystar University, NACOSTI and DU-ISERC Annual Research Ethics Conference aims at Strengthening Ethical Research. The conference will therefore assist to elucidate the role of Ethics, ISERCs and NACOSTI on matters Research and Ethics. The Conference will allow for sharing of facts, emerging trends, Case studies, current studies. This will be a blended conference with physical and virtual attendance and presentation of the accepted research submissions.

Therefore, the Organizing Committee is calling for original 200 to 250 words abstracts on any of the following (and related) sub-themes. Published works or papers already presented in other Conferences will not be accepted.
