On Friday, July 29, 2022, Daystar University students launched the Daystar innovation Hub at the University’s Nairobi Campus. The theme of the launch was Impacting Lives Through Innovation.

The launch attracted industry players who included the Program Manager for Education Engagements at Microsoft Africa Development Center, Ms. Irene Githinji, ABSA Bank SME & Women in Business Specialist, Mr. David Onundu, the Founder & CEO of Mijinitech Ltd Mr. James Ndoto, the Managing Partner of Sisule & Associates LLP, Sisule Musungu, the Head of Strategic Partnerships at Young Investors Africa Timothy Gachucha, the Co-founder & CEO of Meta G Academy & Agency Grace Wangechi,  Hult Prize Foundation Regional Manager for Africa Cliffton Nyakundi, and Jesse Muraya  who represented Magothe Innocent and Startinev.

In his opening remarks, Principal Nairobi Campus, Prof. Michael Bowen noted that human beings are God’s innovation. “No computer can match the human brain,” he observed.

Prof. Bowen further noted that in order to adequately prepare graduates for the job market, universities and industry players needed to openly share what was happening in the job market.

“We want to lay a foundation that gives our students a policy framework for their innovations,” he said.

He advised young innovators to begin by meeting societal needs, and that the money will follow.

The I-Hub president Miss Beth Mwamba said the Daystar IHub was a platform that aimed to foster creativity and innovation among students.

Speaking on behalf of the Daystar I-Hub Patron, Deputy Director ODEL Dr. Martin Munyao observed that institutions of higher learning must innovate or perish. “It is in the university where ideas are birthed,” he said.

The guest speaker was the Programme Manager in charge of Education Engagements at Microsoft Africa, Ms. Irene Githinji. She advised the young innovators to build their portfolios while still in the university, saying that what sells a graduate is their portfolio.

The I-Hub was launched with pomp and jubilation, after which the students and the guests shared a celebratory cake.
