Daystar University wins Ksh 59 million grant for Environmental Education research among Kenyan schools

Daystar University has won a Ksh 59 million grant (US$ 0.5 million) from the United Nations Peace and Development Trust Fund (UN-PDTF). The grant, titled: Assessment of the Effectiveness of Environmental Education in Kenyan Schools, will see Daystar University, through its Directorate of Research and Graduate Studies (DRGS), conduct a study over the next 24 months.

Daystar University has won a Ksh 59 million grant (US$ 0.5 million) from the United Nations Peace and Development Trust Fund (UN-PDTF). The grant was announced today by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Laban P. Ayiro at Main Campus Athi River, where he chaired a joint senate and management meeting.

 The grant, titled: Assessment of the Effectiveness of Environmental Education in Kenyan Schools, will see Daystar University, through its Directorate of Research and Graduate Studies (DRGS), conduct a study over the next 24 months. 

 In a letter dated July 21, 2022, the United Nations Peace and Development Trust Fund noted that the grant was “designed to fund higher education academic research activities in support of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in developing countries, least developed countries and small island developing states.”  UNPDTF is headquartered in New York. 

 Acknowledging the grant, the Daystar University Director of Research and Graduate Studies, Sr. Prof. Agnes Lucy Lando, said the grant was developed fully by a caucus of Daystar researchers without any external support.  She will lead the project team of six, as the Principal Investigator. The research team includes Sr. Prof. Lando (Principal Investigator), Prof. Laban P. Ayiro, Dr. Philemon Yugi, Dr. Dinah Keino, Ms. Lydia Warui,  and Mr. Fred Rotich.

 The study will involve a mixed sample of secondary and primary schools drawn from all 47 counties in Kenya. 

 “My vision since appointment in June 2020 has been to steer Daystar University into an innovative research institution,” said an elated Sr. Prof. Lando. 

 A Communication professor of Daystar University, Sr. Prof. Lando has successfully given oversight to over ten demonstratable research projects.
