Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-chancellor’s sign Performance Contracts

On September 1, the Vice-chancellor Prof. Laban P. Ayiro and his deputies, DVC- Academic, Research and Student Affairs, Prof. Faith Nguru, and DVC-Finance Administration and Planning, Prof. Muturi Wachira signed their 2023-2024 performance contracts with the University Council.

Vice-chancellor Prof. Laban P. Ayiro signs his performance contract for the year 2023-2024

On September 1, the Vice-chancellor Prof. Laban P. Ayiro and his deputies, DVC- Academic, Research and Student Affairs, Prof. Faith Nguru, and DVC-Finance Administration and Planning, Prof. Muturi Wachira signed their 2023-2024 performance contracts with the University Council.

Representing the Council was the Chair, Prof. George Njoroge, and the Chair of HR & Spiritual Nurture Committee, Mrs. Nyambura Musyimi. 

Present to witness the signing were members of Senior Management, Deans of Schools, and Directors.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Prof. Njoroge said the exercise was important because the Council was keen on the University’s performance  by 2030.  He underscored the importance of value-based education, saying that this is the kind of education that makes the difference.

“We have the ingredients to graduate good and productive citizens that will make a difference in the marketplace. Let us synergize so that we can do better in improving the lives of the students,” Prof. Njoroge called on the University Senate and management as he  promised full support by the Council.

On her part, Mrs. Nyambura Musyimi said the University needs a machinery that would help the institution to achieve its goals. She lauded the work done by the committee in preparing this year’s Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), saying that contracting will help the Council to  evaluate performance. She called on those present to keep consulting their contracts, to ensure that they are within their mandate.

The Chief Manager, Human Resource, Mr. Pius Muia explained that the committee invited the Deans and Directors to witness the seriousness of the exercise as they await to sign their contracts which are currently being prepared.

On her part, the Chair of the Performance Management Validation Committee (PMVC), Prof. Martha Kiarie gave an overview of the process of developing the tools for both the Vice-chancellor and his deputies, that targeted four pillars:

  1. Drive student experience
  2. Focus on quality
  3. Research intensity
  4. Creating conditions for success

University Chaplain Rev. Weche emphasized the importance of working quietly.  “Do your work in silence and let your work speak for itself so that when everything is put on the weighing machine, people will say, ‘he does it well’,” he said.
