Daystar University hosted a workshop on Workplace Safety, Health, and Environmental Management at the Nairobi Campus from 14th to 16th June 2023. The three-day workshop was steered by the Daystar Leadership and Professional Development Institute (DLPDI) under the leadership of the Director, Prof. Abraham Waithima.

In his presentation, Prof. Waithima addressed stress management at the workplace by discussing how stress can be managed both at home and at the workplace, consequently bringing about success in both spaces.

On his part, Deputy Director ODEL, Dr. Martin Munyao said that when people experience too much stress in the workplace, they become psychologically overwhelmed and unable to avoid tensions. He advised participants to take regular breaks in between work to unwind. He further called on managers to improve workplace safety and visibility, and counseling sessions on employee safety.

Other speakers included Mr. Joseph Koigi whose focus was on Health and Safety at the Workplace, Mr. Jacob Akinala, who covered accident and accident prevention techniques, and Nelson Maina who tackled the topic of reporting injuries, diseases and dangerous occurrence regulations.

The training culminated with a graduation ceremony held on Friday 16th June 2023 at the Council Room, Nairobi Campus. The event was graced by members of management and head of various departments.

The Ag. DVC Academic Research and Student Affairs, Prof. Samuel Muriithi congratulated the 30 graduands and jogged their minds with random questions from the three-day workshop.

Reflecting on Colosians 4:1 “Masters, provide your slaves with what is right and fair, because you know that you also have a master in heaven,” Prof. Muriithi underscored the importance of responsibility as a two-way factor involving both the employer and employee. He further called on the graduands to share their knowledge with colleagues and fellow citizens, so as to build a robust environment on safety both at home and  workplaces, “Practice what you have learned and teach your skills to others as well. Build a culture of safety and make policies on safety and occupation health,” he said.

DLPDI Director, Prof. Abraham Waithima reflected on the learning that took during the three days, noting that it was highly productive. He encouraged the learners to keep on seeking knowledge, to improve the society by teaching others the right things to do. Prof. Waithima also emphasized the need to act when required to do so in workplaces and at home and in conclusion celebrated the achievement of the 30 men and women who completed the Health, Safety and Environmental Management Training.

On her part, the Corporate Affairs and Marketing Manager, Mrs. Damaris Kimilu expressed her gratitude to the facilitators for the excellent training. She encouraged the graduands to keep journeying forward with the day star as their rearguard.
