DEAN'S WELCOME MESSAGE

Dr. Scholastica Githinji
Ag. Dean School of Arts and Humanities.

Welcome to the School of Arts and Humanities(SAH).

The School runs programmes in Daystar Athi River and Nairobi campuses and offers a range of courses such as :-

  1. Theology both at the Undergraduate and Postgraduate level,
  2. Biblical Studies,
  3. Peace and Conflict Transformation,
  4. Bachelor of Education,
  5. B. Ed in Early Childhood,
  6. Postgraduate Diploma in Education.

The courses in Education are offered both during the semester and the School holidays for the School Based Programmes. The school is committed to nurturing moral integrity, excellence and creativity among the youth, which are critical to the growth and survival of any nation. SAH is the heart of the University as it offers courses that focus on shaping the character of our students, preparing them to tackle vices like immorality and lack of integrity that have crippled many nations especially in Africa.

DEPARTMENT OF THEOLOGY & BIBLICAL STUDIES

UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

Bachelor of Arts in Biblical & Religious Studies

The Bible major exists to meet that need by providing training, primarily in biblical studies, for those involved in Christian ministry, for those preparing for further training at the masters level, for those preparing to teach Christian Religious Education in secondary schools, and for those preparing for work outside of professional Christian ministry but who desire a frm biblical background.


Bachelor of Theology

Pastors in the 21st century need specialized training in order to be equipped to minister in the contemporary African context because African societies have experienced, and continue to experience, dramatic changes for which pastors need to be prepared.

Admission Requirements

Applicants seeking admission into the programme must satisfy the following:

  • be born-again Christians
  • be profcient in the English language, and
  • satisfy any of the following minimum requirements:

Direct entrants:

Be a holder of Kenya Certifcate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum aggregate of C+ (Plus) or its equivalent45 Examination Certifcate. In addition, a prospective Applicant must have obtained a B-(minus) in either History or Christian Religious Education (CRE) in the Kenya Certifcate of Secondary Education or its Equivalent Examination Certifcate.

Mature entrants:

Must be 23 years of age on the 1st of January of the year in which admission is sought.

 

POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMME

Master of Arts in Christian Ministries

It is the purpose of the postgraduate curriculum in Christian Ministries to advance the Kingdom of God through training of effective leaders for church outreach ministries of various kinds. Building on prior training and experience of students in Bible, theology, practical ministry of various forms, and other relevant disciplines, the programme prepares students for effective service as Christian leaders in church, para-church organizations, and society at large.


Master of Arts in African Christianity

The M.Th in African Christianity is a two-year, 48 credit hour programme that is designed to provide relevant theological training for Christian leaders in the African Church and society. In particular, it examines theological issues arising in African contexts, and explores the ongoing formulation of African theologies that address such issues.

 

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMME

Bachelor of Education Degree (Arts/Science)

The B.Ed aims at training professionally qualifed teachers who are competent and skilful enough to teach and provide effective servant leadership and management at all levels of education in private, corporate and public service. The programme focuses on building a broad foundation of theoretical and professional knowledge in education while on the other hand, focusing on concepts, skills and knowledge in specifc disciplines.

Admission Requirements

  • All students admitted to the degree of Bachelor of Education must satisfy the University minimum requirements of a mean grade of C+ in KCSE or Equivalent OR,
  • Have a Diploma in Education from a recognized institution or its equivalent OR
  • Have a Kenya Advanced Certifcate of Education (A level) with a minimum of two principle passes and a subsidiary or its equivalent OR,
  • Have a Division III at KCE or EACE with a diploma in Education or equivalent
  • Have P1 Certifcate with a minimum of a C plain in KCSE.

POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION (PGDE)

The purpose of the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) is to train university graduates currently employed as untrained graduate teachers. Such training will equip them with the needed professional qualifcations and expertise necessary to successfully carry out their responsibilities as teachers or managers in various felds of education. The Postgraduate Diploma in Education is a one-year intensive programme primarily designed to give untrained graduate teachers skills to carry out their instruction with a Christian commitment.

Admission Requirements

  • Applicants must be holders of at least a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University or its equivalent where English was the main language of instruction. Applicants who earned their degrees using other languages shall be required to take basic and remedial English.
  • In the process of admission, exemptions will be given and credit transfers allowed for any of the courses being offered if the applicant has taken an equivalent course in any of the recognized Universities.
  • The student must have attained a minimum grade of C in the course to qualify for exemption.

 

DEPARTMENT OF PEACE & INTERNATIONAL STUDIES

UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMME

Bachelor of Arts in Peace & Conflict Transformation

This program equips the student with an understanding of the causes of war and conflicts in our world and ways of responding to war and conflict. It is a multidisciplinary program whose emphasis is on Transformation and Management of Conflicts in our world. In addition, the Programme is concerned with factors and conditions that make peace and justice possible including the promotion and protection of human rights, human security, and the causes of poverty and injustices in Africa.

In addition to the general admission requirements,a prospective applicant must have obtained a minimum of C (Plain) in either History or Geography in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education or in an Equivalent Examination Certificate.
