Welcome to the School of Law

The School of Law was licensed to offer legal education on 30th July 2018 and opened her doors to the first batch of students in September of the same year. This was after a rigorous process of accreditation involving a market survey, drafting of the curriculum, stakeholder’s forum, inspection and approval of facilities and other resources and recruitment of staff. The School chose Media and Communications Law as her niche area buttressed by Intellectual Property Rights. Consequently, the School currently has two departments: Media & Communications Law and Intellectual Property Rights. Additionally, the School set up a centre for Medical Law and Ethics to offer short courses in this field to Healthcare providers and lawyers as part of their respective professional continuing education, research and advocacy.

The School admits both fulltime and part-time students.

In order to assure a well trained and competent lawyer, the School uses assessment methods such as take-away assignments (to built research skills), sit-in tests (to test mastery of the law under pressure), oral tests (to ensure our students ‘walk’ with the law) and Moot Court presentations (to develop lawyering skills). At the end of second year, students are required to undertake an attachment lasting a minimum of eight (8) weeks in a general industry. At the end of third year, another attachment at the Law Courts dubbed ‘Judicial Attachment’ lasting a minimum of eight (8) weeks is required. An international attachment lasting one to three months in a legal environment is offered between the first and second semesters of the fourth year. To this end, the School has made arrangements with various institutions in Canada, USA, Europe and Africa for this purpose. In the course of their studies, students have an opportunity to participate in Moot Court competitions nationally and internationally.

From 2020, the School will also offer Masters degrees in Law to Lawyers, Scientists, Economists and other professionals who desire to acquire specialized knowledge of Law through research only, course work and research, and through modular learning. The main focus will be in the areas of Media Law & Communications Law, Intellectual Property Rights and Medical Law & Ethics.

The School has therefore set out to offer the best training for lawyers. Those desiring to study law should consider Daystar University School of Law. Professionals accomplished in various fields are encouraged to add Law to their feathers.

Above all, the Christian ethos of the University are taught and reinforced through participation in church services and Bible study sessions in small groups at the University.

Welcome ALL!
