POSITION: (ONE) DEPUTY VICE CHANCELLOR - ACADEMIC, RESEARCH AND STUDENT AFFAIRS
REPORTING TO: VICE CHANCELLOR
LOCATION: MAIN CAMPUS IN ATHI RIVER & NAIROBI CAMPUS


Scope of the Job

This position is responsible for formulating and leading the Academic Division, implementing University strategy and policies to attain its vision and mission in academic, research, and student affairs. It includes strategic leadership in academic and research matters, talent management, budget oversight, and enhancement of student experience and welfare.

Key Responsibilies:

  1. Formulate academic frameworks and policies aligned with Daystar’s Christian vision and mission.
  2. Provide overall leadership in the direction, organization, and administration of learning programs.
  3. Oversee the development, review, and implementation of academic programs and regulations in line with national and international standards and accrediting bodies.
  4. Lead curriculum development and validation for accreditation and quality assurance.
  5. Foster and support a culture of research, publications, and consultancy by faculty and students, including partnerships with industry and funding agencies.
  6. Coordinate research, innovation, enterpreneruship and comercialization
  7. Lead budget planning, monitoring, and reporting within the academic division for financial accountability.
  8. Manage talent development in the academic division, including coaching, mentoring, and performance evaluation.
  9. Promote local and international student recruitment and enhance the student learning experience.
  10. Coordinate student services such as admissions, accommodation, counselling, discipline, welfare, and co-curricular activities.
  11. Ensure compliance with regulatory and professional bodies and government agencies.
  12. Facilitate the management of syllabi, timetables, examinations, student attachments, and library services.
  13.  Coordinate use of academic infrastructure (labs, classrooms, teaching tools, etc.).
  14. Lead academic change initiaves including online learning and educational digital platforms fostering a culture of excellence.
  15. Promote civic and community engagement and establish partnerships with academia, industry, government, churches, international  and other stakeholders.
  16. Lead in planning and mobilizing resources for teaching, learning and  exchange programs.
  17. Lead effective internal and external communication within the Division and with stakeholders on academic matters.
  18. Any other dues as may be assigned or delegated by the Vice Chancellor.

Minimum Qualifications

Academic Qualification

  • Earned PhD. or its equivalent  from a recognized university in a relevant field.
  • Must be an Associate Professor or Full Professor.

Professional Experience, Skills and Requirements

  • A Minimum of 10 years of teaching experience at the higher education level.
  • At least 5 years of senior academic leadership in a university.
  • Strong track record in strategic planning, curriculum development, and academic governance.
  • Demonstrated excellence in research, grant proposal writing, and publication in peer-reviewed forums.
  • Evidence of successful supervision and mentorship of Master’s and PhD students.
  • Experience in quality assurance, compliance, and collaboration with regulatory agencies.
  • Demonstrable experience in resource mobilizaon and partnership building.
  • ICT proficiency in academic, HR, and financial management systems.
  • Membership of relevant professional bodies
  • Fulfilment of chapter 6 of the constuon of Kenya
