About Course

Rationale

The Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations Programme is a four-year programme designed to equip students with requisite knowledge and skills to enable them to function effectively in the field of public relations. It does so by offering a range of courses that grounds the student in the theoretical foundations that inform the practice of Public relations.

Students will also be equipped with other skills building courses requisite for practical PR demands in contemporary society. These courses include, but are not limited to, writing, research, persuasive, event planning, and fundraising skills as well as media literacy. To remain relevant in the modern and dynamic communication landscape, there is a deliberate attempt to integrate phases of digital engagement in a wide range of course contents and assignments.

Objectives

It is against the above backdrop that the proposed B.A in Public Relations curriculum does the following:

  • Combines theoretical, practical and ethical approaches to develop useful and ethical public relations professionals.
  • Provides multidisciplinary knowledge necessary for one to appreciate the versatile environment that public relations professions operate in, whether social, political or economics.
  • Provides an array of skill-building courses geared to giving the graduates requisite tools to execute their mandate as public relations professionals effectively. These skills include writing, storytelling, technological know-how and communication skills.
  • Enable graduates to transition from academia to the industry. This transition will be achieved through the efficient projects and simulation exercises that the students will execute in their final year. A mandatory split industry internship is embedded into the programme.
