On Wednesday, September 6, 2023, the Amphitheatre was packed to capacity as the new students eagerly waited to be officially admitted to the University in a matriculation ceremony officiated by the Vice-chancellor Prof. Laban P. Ayiro and Deputy Vice-chancellor ARSA, Prof. Faith Nguru.

Over 500 students from both Nairobi and Athi River campuses attended the event. Also present was the Acting Principal Nairobi Campus, Prof. Samuel Muriithi, Senior Management, Deans of School, Directors, Heads of Departments and Faculty members from the seven Schools.

The Vice-chancellor explained the essence of a matriculation, saying that it is a formal process of admitting students to a university for a degree, diploma or certificate course. For Daystar University, this involves signing a Declaration of Ascent, where the students undertake to abide by the University’s code of conduct by fulfilling academic and moral obligations.

Using example of his humble background, the VC encouraged students from low-income backgrounds to never forget where they came from.

“Before I matriculate you today, I want you to know your story. Do not socialize on your guilt, but invest in your brains,” he advised. To the well-off students, he had this to say, “More is expected of you, as you demand much from your parents.”

The VC promised that the University will do its best to offer quality services to students in terms of academics, sports, research and spirituality, while guiding the students holistically on lifestyle matters. He was categorical that education is an equalizer but what determines success is student’s effort.

The VC further underscored the importance of personal discipline, using examples of Nelson Mandela and Steve Jobs who excelled because of discipline.

As she led students through the matriculation process, Prof. Faith Nguru noted that matriculation marks an important milestone as students begin their academic journey.

She nonetheless cautioned that the ultimate success hinges on the student’s willingness to work hard, pass exams and get a good GPA. For that to happen, Prof. Nguru reiterated that one must manage time wisely as part of personal discipline.

The ceremony ended with the signing of the Declaration of Ascent, which was presided over by DVC ARSA Prof. Faith Nguru.

Thereafter, the Vice-chancellor commissioned the students to become Bonafide students of Daystar University.
