On May 3, 2023, Daystar University together with School Farms Africa (SFA) celebrated the completion, dedication and inauguration of the New Horizon Centre Multipurpose Hall in Emboloi village in Kiserian.

The event was attended by Daystar University Community, Kibera Academy, Kawangare School, and Emboloi Maasai community

The 600-seater facility stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts and funding from Guernsey Overseas Aid Commission.  It is aimed at transforming the lives of vulnerable children and communities in Kenya.

SFA, a non-profit organization registered in Guernsey and Kenya, has made significant strides in supporting education, healthcare, farming, and infrastructure initiatives. Their work primarily focuses on vulnerable children, particularly those residing in Kibera. Some of their notable accomplishments include drilling boreholes in Kibera Academy and Emboloi, constructing an administration block, kitchen, store, and modern toilets at a Kibera Academy, and providing COVID-19 relief funds during the 2020 Covid period where hundreds of food parcels were given to the families associated with the Kibera Academy thanks to the generosity of the friends of Kibera Farm Project and the Guernsey Overseas Aid Commission.

SFA has also acquired a 13-acre farm, which now houses the New Horizon Centre, and leased an additional 10-acre plot for annual maize cultivation. This maize is then distributed to Kibera School, Kawangare School, Dr. Buconyori School and the Pillars of Hope Children's Center. Furthermore, SFA has established Mission Services, leading to over 30 individuals embracing Christianity and being born again within the last three months.

Mr. Sarl, Chair of SFA, together with SFA Board have played a crucial role in resource mobilization, while Daystar University's Vice-chancellor Prof. Laban Ayiro, who is also the Chair of School Farms Kenya, has ensured the successful implementation of these projects in Kenya.

Looking ahead, SFA is committed to expanding its impact on the community. Plans include constructing a much-needed medical center, as the nearest hospital facility is over 25 kilometers away. Additionally, they aim to establish a primary school for children from Kibera (and other under-privileged communities) and the surrounding Emboloi communities. To support the New Horizon Centre, SFA is also seeking resources to build a kitchen, a Missions Pastor's house, and an ablution block.

School Farms Africa and Kenya continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable children and their communities. As they move forward with their ambitious plans, they are eager to welcome funding partners and individuals committed to making a lasting impact in Kenya. Daystar University continues to be part of these kinds of initiative that bring transformative changes in the community.
