New DUSA Government sworn into Office

2023-2024 DUSA Council and Congress, accompanied by family, friends and Daystar officials after the swearing in ceremony.

The newly elected Daystar University Students Association (DUSA) Council and Congress members were sworn into office on Thursday 20th April 2023, in a ceremony held at the DAC Auditorium, Nairobi Campus.  

Present at the ceremony was the Acting VC and DVC-Academic, Research & Student Affairs, Prof. Faith Nguru, Dean of Students Rev. Mutinda Musyimi, Legal Manager-Mrs. Mueni Nyokabi-Kahumbura, University Chaplain Rev. Miano Weche, incoming and outgoing DUSA Council and Congressmen and women. 

Forty-four elected leaders took the oath of office out of the expected 49. According to Ag. Dean of Students, Mrs. Grace Karanja, seven positions are yet to be filled. So far, the elected leadership is as follows: 

  1. Seven Council members comprising: 
    1. Geoffrey Tum                       President 
    2. Buke Halkano                       Deputy President  
    3. Newton Kamuyu                  Secretary General 
    4. Elizabeth Achol                    ISADU President 
    5. Ken Andrew Muganda        Campus Secretary Nairobi 
    6. Laban Choti                          Campus Secretary Main 
    7. David Prest                           Treasurer 
  2. Three Senior Congress members. 
  3. Twenty-one Congress Members for the Main Campus Athi River. 
  4. Thirteen Congress Members for the Nairobi Campus. 

The new team was sworn in by the Legal Manager, Mrs. Mueni Nyokabi-Kahumbura.  

Prof. Nguru lauded the outgoing DUSA President Mr. Walter Nalwa and his team for his diplomatic approach to handling issues. She acknowledged that a lot was achieved under his leadership.  

She congratulated the incoming team and urged them to read the University charter and statutes well so as to make meaningful commitments to students.   

Prof. Nguru further urged the new DUSA leadership to bring to the attention of management issues that need action.

The incoming President, Mr. Geoffrey Tum thanked the students for entrusting him and the new leadership the mandate to serve them for the next one year.  

 

“I promise that I will work hand in hand with the Council and Congress to deliver service, as we pledged during the campaign period,”

he said adding that his team will stay true to its promise and will deliver.

The Outgoing President Mr. Walter Nalwa appreciated Daystar University and the student body for giving him and his team opportunity to exercise their leadership skills. 

To the new leadership, he had this to say, “Be deliberate in what you want to do and work towards it, put Daystar University values ahead of your comfort, and embrace servant leadership.” 

On his part, the Dean of students thanked Mr. Nalwa and the outgoing team for accomplishing much. He further advised them to remember they were first and foremost students and should not neglect their studies.
