Daystar receives new students

VC speaks a blessing to new students

[Monday, January 8, 2024, Athi River] The Main Campus Athi River was bustling with activity as Daystar University welcomed new students admitted for the January 2024 semester for the orientation week.

The students, accompanied by their parents and guardians reported to the Main Campus Athi River where the orientation team offered warm reception to enable them settle down for campus life.

At Daystar, the orientation process begins with assigning new students ‘families’ led by older students, popularly known as ‘parents’.

As this happened, parents and guardians who dropped their children were given a guided tour of the campus. Later, the students and their parents were hosted to high tea by the Vice-chancellor, during which time they were introduced to the University management, senate, managers, and student leadership.

The Vice-chancellor Prof. Laban Peter Ayiro called on the parents to support and encourage their sons and daughters in their academic journey.  He assured them that Daystar University cared for every student and that none of the students would be left behind because of poverty.  He explained that he spends 40 percent of his time fundraising for scholarships.

“My wish for you is that you will succeed in Daystar University. Together we shall make Daystar great,” said the Vice-chancellor.

The DVC ARSA Prof. Faith Nguru congratulated the new students for choosing Daystar University, saying that Daystar values academic excellence and pursuit of knowledge. Prof. Nguru further urged them to use both opportunities and challenges they face to grow. “You are the architect of your destiny,” she said.

In his welcome remarks, the DVC Finance, Administration and Planning Prof. Muturi Wachira assured the new students that we aimed to transform them into well grounded Christian professionals.

The University Chaplain, Rev. J. Miano Weche  called on the new students to detach from the past no matter how glorious it was, and to focus on the future..

During the orientation week, the new students were guided through the various processes of admission and registration for courses, as they familiarize themselves with their new environment.

The orientation process will culminate with teambuilding activities on Saturday January 13, at Freedom Base and Chapel service on Sunday January 14.
