[Athi River Campus, June 19, 2025] In a collaborative effort to promote environmental sustainability, the Daystar University Students Association (DUSA) partnered with Kingdom Bank to plant trees at the DUSA Park, Main Campus Athi River.

The initiative, dubbed “Greening Daystar,” brought together students, university staff and Kingdom Bank representatives in an initiative aimed at improving the campus environment and fostering long-term partnerships.

The event was organized by DUSA in conjunction with Kingdom Bank, with support from the University administration.

Key figures present included Youth Banking Team Leader at Kingdom Bank, Stephen Ngaruya and Head of Retail Banking, Timothy Kabue. The team was received by Director of Academic Affairs, Dr. Dinah Keino, representing the DVC-Academic, Research and Student Affairs.

Students and staff from the University actively took part in the tree planting exercise.

Prior to the tree planting exercise, a short briefing session was held at the DUSA Park where speakers shared the vision behind the partnership.

Stephen Ngaruya emphasized the Bank’s commitment to young people, noting that Kingdom Bank offers student-friendly financial services, including internships, business startup support, and access to loans up to Ksh 300,000 from the convenience of one’s mobile phone. On his part, Timothy Kabue encouraged continued collaboration between Kingdom Bank and Daystar University, sharing hopes for future support.

Dr. Keino commended DUSA for advancing the vision of a greener Daystar, and expressed the University’s interest in formalizing the partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). She also encouraged students to view tree planting not only as environmental action but also as a symbol of personal and communal growth. She proposed that Kingdom Bank considers branding the University Sports team with uniforms to deepen the partnership.

Following the speeches, all present united to plant 200 trees across DUSA Park.  The atmosphere was energetic and collaborative with participants taking pride in contributing to a cause that benefits both the environment and future generations of Daystar University.

Beyond conservation, the “Greening Daystar” event symbolized how corporate partnerships can positively impact student life not just through greening initiatives but also by opening doors for mentorship and financial empowerment.
