Vice Chancellor attends Mauritius Distance Education and Teacher Training Conference

[Mauritius: Wed, July 23, 2025]  Daystar University Vice Chancellor Prof. Laban P. Ayiro participated in a panel discussion in ongoing Distance Education and Teachers' Training in Africa (DETA), taking place at the Mauritius Institute of Education.

The theme of the high-level panel discussion was “Education for Empowering the Global South: Technologies and Pedagogies for Distance Teacher Education.” 

The session brings together renowned educationists from South Africa, Kenya, and Mauritius to reflect on strategies for transforming distance teacher education in the Global South. Prof. Ayiro contributed insights on how leadership and innovation can bridge gaps in access and quality.

The Panel Discussion was moderated by the Vice Chancellor, Open University of Kenya (OUK), Prof Elijah Omwenga (extreme right).

Other panelists were Dr. Brinda Oogarah-Pratap from Mauritius Institute of Education, Prof. Geesje van den Berg, University of South Africa, and Dr. Logan Govender, University of Johannesburg, South Africa.
