DUSA Hosts Student Baraza

[Athi River Campus: July 23, 2025] The Daystar University Students Association (DUSA) Council hosted a highly anticipated Student Baraza at the Amphitheatre, Main Campus Athi River.

The event, which ran under the theme of "Elevate, Engage, Empower!" brought together students and departmental staff for a vibrant afternoon of engagement, accountability and visioning together.

The Baraza which was moderated by Jack Odera commenced with prayer, followed by introductions by the DUSA Secretary General, Jerry Amino.

Emphasizing the role of DUSA in addressing student concerns, Jerry highlighted some of the activities lined up for the September semester, including the launch of Daystar Festival to replace the traditional Daystar Fun Day, as well as Daystar's Got Talent and Academic-based activities.  These, he said, will enhance student experience both socially and intellectually. Amimo lauded the DUSA leadership team, singling out the Main Campus Secretary Churchill Aoko and the DUSA Treasurer Purity Wambui for their ongoing efforts to serve the University community.

One of the high points was the session by the founder of Academic Affairs, Erick Muuo. Students fielded academic questions anonymously via a QR code shared during the event via the Academia App. The questions were open for all to view and were addressed live, thereby creating a safe and live learning space.

The Ag. DVC - Academic, Research and Student Affairs Prof. Samuel Muriithi encouraged the students to take advantage of opportunities such as student exchange programs for those with excellent academic performance.  Prof. Muriithi noted that Daystar students have in the past travelled overseas to institutions like Kosin University to study for two semesters through exchange programs. He reiterated the importance of having emotional intelligence and informed them that success comes with one's mentality. "You become what you think," he said.

The Dean of Students Rev. Mutinda Musyimi urged students with disabilities, mental or emotional challenges, or any other special need to come forward for support, assuring them that his office was open and committed to student well-being.

Other key university officials present to speak to students included Senior Human Resource Officer Ms. Esca Juma, Ms. Santo Soi from Daystar University Enterprises Limited (DEL) Catering Services and Mr. Nahashon Kiema (Transport Services), CPA Shadrack Mutua and CPA Purity Kadesa from the Finance Department and Mr. Chris Wekesa from the Security Department.

The event ended with cutting of a celebratory cake to mark the success of the Baraza. A closing prayer was made and refreshments served as students and staff connected informally.

Overall, the Student Baraza created meaningful bridge between students and the university Administration. It asserted the worth of open communication, accountability and community, placing itself well for the next semester and beyond.
