International Relations and Security Studies Students Celebrate Diplomatic Day

On March 16, 2022, Ambassador Mr. Moi Lemoshira from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade spent the day with Daystar University International Relations and Security Studies students, at the Athi ‘River Campus.

He was accompanied by two colleagues, Maureen. N. Ntari, a Daystar Alumna and current MA student currently working at the United Nations Security Council, and Fidel Ongute, a Daystar graduate of Applied Computer Science graduate, currently working at the Asia, Australasia and Pacific Islands Directorate.

Amb. Lemoshira was hosted by the Dean School of Arts and Social Sciences, Rev. Dr. Patrick Musembi, and the HoD for International Relations and Security Studies, Mrs. Sylvia Wakene.

The Amb. Lemoshira enlightened the students on Kenya's foreign policy, the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Diplomacy issues, diplomatic engagements, diplomatic missions, protocol and etiquette. He pointed out that one of the most important skills in diplomacy is intelligence gathering.

He further advised the students to take a foreign language, saying that the future of  diplomacy is in foreign languages and noted that the best diplomats are those trained in law or lawyers who are trained in diplomacy.

“Be open minded and willing to learn. Do well in School but earnest the opportunities,” he advised. He further called on universities to have a centre for diplomacy to attract partnerships.

The alumni advised the students to be on the lookout for opportunities to put themselves out in the marketplace.

Also present was the Public Relations officer Ms. Jean Murungi, Faculty and students in the School of Arts and Social Sciences.
