Participants of the INCHE Conference

Four Daystar University faculty attended the International Network for Christian Higher Education (INCHE) conference held at Corat Africa from 27^th to 29th November 2023. 

The four included Rev. Steven Nduto, team leader and faculty member in the Department of Theology and Pastoral Studies, Rev. Dr. Perminus Mburu,  the HOD, Department of Theology and Pastoral Studies, Rev. Fred Ogore, Lecturer in the School of Science, Engineering and Health, and Ms. Irene Kimani from the School of Applied Human Sciences.  Rev. Nduto is the Faculty Coach for INCHE Africa 2023 Project on "Preparing Redemptive Change Agents.  

In his opening remarks Rev. Nduto expressed thanked INCHE for the opportunity to be trained as Redemptive Change Agents (RCA). Rev. Nduto was appointed on 12th January, 2023, on recommendation by DVC-Academic, Research and Student Affairs Prof. Faith Nguru who is a Board Member of INCHE.  

Speaking at the conference, the DVC ARSA, Prof. Faith Nguru encouraged participants to develop a moral compass for their students. She urged them to teach and preach in a way to counter the dehumanizing system that the world has put in place, and give hopeful resistance that comes from God. She added that Faculty should teach more for the inner convictions and not just for performance which is making Christians sell their souls.  

“We should be interested in how much a person learns and not just the grade they get. Let our students be known not by the academic performance but also the kindness, humility and compassion they emulate,” she said, further encouraging the dons to teach and mentor students to have ethical discernment and to grow in virtue, being able to differentiate what is right and wrong. 

The Daystar team presented the proposed Bible Study Guide for Daystar Community members based on Bible Characters. “Our prayer is that the guide will encourage members of Daystar community to be redemptive change agents in times that are turbulent and troubling, and bring transformative change that comes from God,” said Irene Kimani.  

Participants were drawn from various Christian universities in Africa including Academic Reformed Teaching and Studies (AROS), South Africa, Uganda Christian University, Vision Bible College in Uganda, Pan Africa Christian University and Daystar University from Kenya.  

The International Network for Christian Higher Education (INCHE) is a global organization of individuals and institutions connected with the shared goal of serving Jesus as Lord by fostering the development of Christian higher education worldwide, besides Faculty Development in Christian Universities.
