School of Applied Human Sciences addresses Kimana Youth and Pastors’ Forums

Dr. Daniel Mutunga addressing the youth during the Kimana Interdenominational Youth Forum

[Monday December 11, 2023 - Kimana], The School of Applied Human Sciences facilitated a one-day interactive Youth Forum in Kimana township in Kajiado South on Monday December 11, 2023.

This was a follow-up of a previous visit where the University was invited to speak to a pastors’ forum  and map out possible partnership in addressing community issues in the area.

The marketing event, coordinated by Public Relations Officer Ms. Jean Murungi was part of ongoing efforts to enroll new students in various academic programs.

The SAHS team was led by the Dean School of Applied Human Sciences, Dr. Kennedy Ongaro. The Forum was organized by Senior Lecturer Dr. Daniel Mutunga and comprised HoD Development Studies, Dr. Mary Mogute, three Faculty members Dr. Philemon Yugi, Dr. Emily Sitati and Mr. Julius Limbitu.  They were joined by Dr. Rose Nuna, a friend of Daystar University. Given the agriculture-based economy of Kajiado South, SAHS was particularly interested in enrolling more students in Agriculture and Community Development.

The inter-denominational Youth Forum was organized courtesy of different churches in Kimana who invited Daystar University to speak to the youth, Pastors and their spouses, and took place at Free Pentecostal Church in Kimana, from 9:00am to 3:00pm.  The Youth Forum ran parallel to an end of year get-together of Pastors and their spouses.

Dr. Mary Mogute and Dr. Rose Nuna tackled the topic: Practical Challenges Facing the Youth and the Strategies of addressing these challenges. On his part, Dr. Mutunga spoke on Demystifying Globalization while Dr. Philemon Yugi facilitated the familiarization session. On the other hand, Ms. Jean Murungi closed the forum with a career talk by presenting all Daystar programmes. Later the youth were treated to refreshments courtesy of Daystar University.

Later in the afternoon, Dr. Mutunga, Dr. Mogute and Dr. Sitati spoke to Pastors and their spouses. Dr. Mutunga presented possible collaborations between Daystar University and the churches in Kimana, including facilitating short courses for pastors, Church leaders and pastors’ wives.

Being a Pastor’s wife herself, Dr. Sitati gave wise counsel to the clergy and their spouses, which left them longing for more. Dr. Mogute added her voice by calling on the pastors to manage their time well so that they do not neglect their families.

The day forged long-term relations between Daystar University and churches in Kimana. After whetting their appetites, the Daystar team left with a promise to return in 2024.  The team also met former Daystar staff and alumni.  Among these were Mr. Dan Kidini of the Class of 1999 and proprietor of Paran Resort where they lodged on Sunday night,  Mercy Maloi Lomunyak and Mr. Clement Naini who once worked in the Corporate Affairs department.
