Huawei Academy at Daystar University recognised

 

On 6th December 2022, the HOD, Computer Science Department Ms. Zipporah Mwololo received a Rising Star recognition from Huawei for promoting digital awareness among Daystar University students. Her efforts have been anchored on a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2020 during Covid-19 Pandemic.

She received the recognition during a workshop held at Huawei headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi.  Also present was the Dean, School of Science, Engineering and Health Prof. Martha Kiarie who gives oversight to the MOU, and Ms. Linah Jumwa from ICT department, a Certified Huawei Trainer.

Through the MOU, Daystar University runs an official Huawei Academy that offers courses provided by Huawei Company globally.   The first Huawei Academy class at Daystar University was launched this year, with each of the 24 pioneer students being awarded Data Centre Certification.

  

According to Ms. Mwololo, the courses are not only limited to Computer Science students but are open to students from other disciplines.  “We invite all students to join in the courses lined up for the year 2023,” said Ms. Mwololo.

At the Daystar University Huawei Academy, students stand to benefit from the following: 

  1. Huawei certifications at reduced cost 
  2. Resources: Training Materials and qualified trainers 
  3. Support Services: Textbooks and Online Laboratory 
  4. Priority in employment: Huawei organizes annual career fairs for graduates with at least have one certificate. 

Ms. Mwololo added that this is all geared towards building an ecosystem of a competitive workforce because we are in the digital economy.  The more certificates one can acquire the better so as to become fit for the 21st Century workforce globally.
