Daystar University Holds January Semester Prayer Day

The January 2020 semester prayer day took place on January 30, 2020 at both Athi River and Nairobi Campuses. The normal activities at the University were put on hold as staff, Faculty and students came together to seek God’s direction for the new semester. At Athi River campus, Rev. Josphat Musili, the resident Chaplain Athi River campus welcomed and introduced the guest speaker, Rev. Robin Mulunda from CITAM Athi River Assembly.

Rev. Mulunda drew his sermon from the semester theme “Building on Christ; the Firm Foundation”. He urged the congregation to stand on Christ. “Our eternal destiny is dependent on how we build our foundation on earth,” he said. He also spoke about the building blocks of our faith and the societal strain on Christianity, encouraging believers not to celebrate self-sufficiency over dependence on God.

“Our eternal destiny is dependent on how we build our foundation on earth,” he said.

Rev. Mulunda further urged the congregation to hold firm in their faith in all circumstances, and advised the congregation to never forget that God was constant in their lives.

After the sermon, the worship team led the congregation through a worship and prayer session incorporating different prayer points including: Raising God’s altar in our lives, pulling down negative foundations, Praying for student leadership, Praying for the Daystar Founders and top Daystar management - the Vice Chancellor, University Governance and all the activities that would be taking place in the course of the semester.

The final session was the breaking of bread; Holy Communion which was led by Rev. J.M. Musili.

After the final prayer, the congregation enjoyed tea together, courtesy of DCF Executives and the Chaplaincy.

At the Nairobi Campus, the guest speaker was Pastor Christian Lwanda from Emmanuel Baptist Church Nairobi. He elaborated his three-part sermon titled Glory, Grace and God as the integration of the Lord’s Prayer, around which the Campus Prayer Day was structured.

The prayer session was led by Nairobi Campus Assistant Chaplain Pastor Rachel Ngugi, with the help of DCF Executive. Lifting from the lines in the Lord’s Prayer, the team led the congregation in worship, petitioning Him for their needs, repentance and professing the kingdom of God.

They prayed for the country and its leaders, besides praying for the University Council and Company, the Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor, Management and other senior University organs.

After the prayer session there was the Holy Communion led by Rev. Ken Aringo, a Master’s Student and Anglican Cleric. The congregants shared a cup of tea courtesy of the Chaplaincy to conclude the day.

At the beginning of every semester, Daystar University dedicates a day to commit the semester and its activities to God.
