As Kenyans celebrated Mashujaa Day on 20th October 2022, Daystar University in partnership with the 4Muskateers (4M) from the Netherlands hosted the Muskathlon 2022 marathon, an endurance charity event through which participants hiked, biked and ran varying distances between 21kms to 120kms.

The marathon was flagged off from Daystar University Main Campus at 6:00am, challenging participants to endure and complete distances for which they had registered. It attracted participants from across East Africa.Earlier on, those registered to complete the 63 kilometres, began their walk at 1:00am and continued with the rest in the morning.

A number of staff and students participated also and supported the event.  Among these were the Dean of Students Rev. Mutinda Musyimi who flagged off the marathon alongside 4M leaders, the Dean, School of Nursing Dr. Susan Njuguna who led third year Nursing students to give First Aid, and the Associate Dean of Students Main Campus Ms. Susan Botto who mobilized the DOULOS service team led by Sam Achira.

The Doulos, St. John’s and School of Nursing volunteers distributed refreshments to participants at designated water points along the route, gave First Aid and medical attention as well as cheered on participants to endure and finish.

The first leg took hikers through the Lukenya Conservancy around the hills behind the Athi River Campus to re-enter Daystar through Lukenya Boys.

Other event logistics were supported by the University Services department, Equity Afya ambulance services, and the police.

We appreciate all who made this event a resounding success.
