[Nairobi: 20th May 2026] Daystar University Council Chair, Prof. F. George Njoroge, has received international recognition after winning a prestigious Sh446 million award, alongside UK Scientist Prof. Robert Bristow, for their groundbreaking work in advancing the early detection of esophageal cancer.
The award celebrates the duo’s contribution to cancer research, particularly in developing innovative approaches aimed at improving early diagnosis of the disease, which remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths worldwide.
Prof. Njoroge’s achievement places Kenya on the global scientific map and highlights the growing impact of African researchers in addressing major health challenges through research and innovation.
This distinguished recognition, awarded through the United Kingdom’s National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) under the 2026 Greater Manchester Cancer Award, underscores Prof. Njoroge‘s exceptional contribution to global scientific advancement, pioneering cancer research, innovative drug discovery, and transformative life-saving medical breakthroughs.
The recognition has been widely praised as a major milestone for Kenyan science and a source of inspiration to young researchers across the country. The award also reflects the importance of international collaboration in advancing medical discoveries and strengthening the global fight against cancer.
"We're tilting the balance. Now we have the opportunity for early detection and treatment of throat cancer," Prof. Njoroge told the Infospot. He urged Kenyans to insist on proper diagnosis and not assume that prolonged sore throat, cough or heartburn.
Prof. Njoroge added that if detected by stage two, throat cancer is controllable.
Prof. Njoroge has over 100 patents including cancer treatment, hepatitis C, progeria, ageing, diabetes, and infectious diseases. His pioneering work includes contributions to the historical discovery of Victrelis and Sarasar/Zokinvy, which have placed Kenya and Africa on the global map.
