[Nairobi: May 22, 2026]  Ninety-five Students and 12 faculty from the Daystar University Department of Peace and International Relations took part in a Youth-to-Youth Debate hosted by the Embassy of Indonesia in Nairobi, themed: “Bridging Indonesia and Kenya through Youth Leadership for Global Impact.

The debate took place courtesy of the Indonesian Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Mr. Tyas Witjaksono Adji, who invited Daystar University. Earlier on March 11, 2026, the Ambassador was keynote speaker during Daystar University’s Diplomatic Day held at Main Campus Athi River.

The dialogue, jointly organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Nairobi, alongside Daystar University, Padjadjaran University, and President University, convened over 150 participants physically, with close to 200 others attending virtually from universities across Kenya and Indonesia.

The engagement brought together Daystar University students and their counterparts from various Indonesian universities in a vibrant exchange focused on diplomacy, policy, and international relations, reflecting the growing commitment to international academic and cultural exchange.

Beyond enhancing critical thinking, public speaking, negotiation, and policy analysis skills, the debate provided students with valuable experiential exposure to international academic and diplomatic discourse.

The forum highlighted the growing influence of young people in global diplomacy and social transformation, with speakers underscoring the need for stronger international collaboration among the youth.

In his remarks, H.E. Mr. Tyas Witjaksono Adji noted that young people are increasingly becoming key drivers of innovation, global networking, and positive societal change. He emphasized the importance of empowering the youth to actively participate in shaping the future through dialogue and shared ideas.

Adding to the discussion, Daystar University Head of the Department of Peace and International Studies, Dr. Justus Musya, stressed the rising relevance of cross-border and inter-generational diplomacy. He observed that youth-led engagement platforms continue to play a critical role in promoting peaceful coexistence, mutual understanding, and innovation across nations.

The discussion further brought together student panelists from Kenya and Indonesia, including Ms. Diana Gesare Makori and Mr. Dalmas Bukasa Atsowa from Daystar University, Ms. Alisha Nailah Kushandari from Padjadjaran University, and Refa Fresy Cinta Betah from President University, who shared perspectives on the role of young people in shaping global progress.

Discussions during the dialogue revolved around three central themes namely: transforming youth awareness into meaningful action, turning values into tangible impact, and fostering lasting international connections beyond national borders.

The programme attracted 95 students and 12 faculty mentors. Highlights of the event included participation by two Daystar students in the panel discussion, as well as remarks by the HOD, Department of Peace and International Relations, Dr. Justus Musya, who emphasized his Department’s commitment to equipping students with practical exposure and industry-oriented learning in International Relations and Diplomacy Studies.

In addition to dialogue, the forum highlighted Indonesia’s cultural wealth with displays of traditional musical instruments, including the Angklung and Gamelan, and exhibition of Indonesian products currently established in African markets.
