Ministry of Education Evaluates Daystar's Preparedness for CBE Intake in 2029

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Laban P. [Athi River: May 25, 2026] Officials from the Ministry of Education spent the day at Daystar University Main Campus Athi River,  evaluating the University’s preparedness for the first cohort of Competency Based Education and Training (CBET) students who will be joining universities in 2029.

The visit was part of ongoing monitoring and evaluation exercise in public and private universities across the country.

Welcoming the Ministry officials on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, the DVC ARSA, Prof Samuel Muriithiassured them that Daystar University was well prepared to receive the first cohort of CBE students. He said the University uses the Problem-based Learning (PBL) mode of teaching and learning, which is similar to CBC. He also revealed that the University has been training faculty in preparation for CBE students, including a Training of Trainers capacity building in Finland for 15 faculty drawn from all the Schools, , who in turn are expected to train fellow faculty in their respective schools.

The Principal Secretary, Ministry of Education was represented by Mrs. Eunice Wakofula, who was accompanied by Ms. Esther Chagallah. Mrs. Wakofola revealed that the three CBE pathways are Social Sciences, Arts and Sports Science, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects.

 Mrs. Wakofola said she had a good feeling about Daystar University’s preparedness to receive the CBE students in 2029. She was particularly impressed by the University’s infrastructure and Faculty training on CBE system of education, noting that not many universities have achieved as much as Daystar University has.

The Dean School of Education, Prof. Dr. Dr. Moni Wekesa, presented a report on the University’s preparedness, focusing on specific areas of interest including: Infrastructural facilities, University governance, pedagogy and curriculum review.

Daystar University also requested the Ministry to: (1) facilitate training on what is expected of universities in preparation for CBE students, (2) reduce the cost of reviewing curriculum, (3) avail guidance for CBE implementation, and (4) identify experts for CBE implementation within the country. Given the preparedness of Daystar University, the Ministry officials felt that Daystar University could offer training for other institutions.
