In August 1995, I started my career as a lecturer, in the department of Community Development at Daystar University, teaching a number of courses in sociology, social work, community development courses and social research methods. As a Daystar University faculty member, I participated in the curriculum development in; BA Psychology, Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Child Development in collaboration with Compassion International in the year 2000. The Child development curriculum gave birth to Daystar’s Postgraduate Diploma and Masters’ Degree in Child Development.
In the year 2001, I was appointed at the Chairperson of Community Development studies. As a Chair, I lead a team of about one thousand students, seven full-time faculty members and several adjunct lectures for a period of five and half years. During this period, I severally acted as the Ag. Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences. In March 2002, I was appointed as the Chairperson of the Teaching and Learning Taskforce of Daystar University.
Currently, I serve as a senior lecturer and Theses Coordinator in the department of Development Studies. I have been serving as an external examiner for the social work diploma programme at School of Government, Embu since the year
2004 to date.
As a faculty member in the department of Community Development Department, I served as a member and coordinator of an HIV and AIDS sensitization and awareness creation programme at Kapiti Plains (Kyumbi Community) in Machakos District between 1998- 2002. The project was funded by the Norwegian Church Aid and ran by Daystar University, Department of Community Development. The project focused on Community sensitization, awareness creation and empowerment. Besides, the project targeted commercial sex workers and truck drivers at Makutano Junction. Later on, in 2000-2001, I was involved in the needs’ assessment activities at Keniani Community in Machakos District. As a departmental Chairperson, together with other faculty members and students I was involved in community empowerment programmes and organizing of medical camps, clean-up exercises in Jam City, an informal settlement, in the environs of Athi River town.
At Daystar University, as a lecturer and later as a Chairperson, I was involved in various activities such as tree planting, a project that was intended to “Green Daystar”. Besides, I successfully steered the Bee-keeping project of Daystar University. All these projects provided a platform for practical learning for community development students since they acted as “Departmental Laboratories” for students. These two projects were funded by Daystar University. I was also involved in the management of the of the Daystar University farm that supplied the Daystar University Kitchen with groceries such as; spinach, kales, tomatoes, onions and capsicum. Besides, these farm products were sold to Daystar University staff and other community members.
In April 2014, I was involved in consultancy to undertake Monitoring & Evaluation of multiple projects of Hope Centre for Children of Africa in Bunia DR- Congo.
I am a member of the Social Work Association of Kenya, Community Development Association of Kenya and Gusii Dons Association. As a way of giving back to the community, I am a board member of several schools in Kisii County. I am a founder of St. Zaphany Schools and Kindergarten, an elder and board member of Ruai South SDA church. I am motivational speaker, with a special focus on Youth and Women.
