Prof. Alice Munene

Coordinator, Clinical Psychology

Title and Responsibilities

Coordinator, PhD in Clinical Psychology – Providing guidance and leadership to faculty in clinicals, psychometric testing and dissertation writing; advising and mentoring students on matters ethics in clinical practice, supervision, research apprenticeship and overseeing the management of Nuru Counseling Centre.

PhD Coordinator teaching research apprenticeship, Psychological testing Psychotherapy, Professional Ethics and Marriage and Family to PhD and Masters students.

Biography

I have been a Literature and Christian Religious Education High School teacher of two schools, a Head of Department and a Patron of the Christian Union in both (Kyeni in Eastern and Kenya High School in Nairobi). I  have been a School Chaplain at Kenya High School too. At Daystar

University, I have been the Head of Community Department for (19972001). I have written and launched curriculums such as the Psychology Major and Minor, MA in Counseling Psychology, BA Community Development Major and Social Work Major. Additionally, I have been dean (2007-2010) of the faculty of Social Sciences, which housed the current Schools of Business and Economics, and Human and Social

Sciences. I have also been dean of the School of Human and Social Sciences (2010-2015). While dean, SHSS, I developed the PhD in Clinical Psychology Curriculum. I relinquished the responsibilities of dean, SHSS to focus on the PhD in Clinical Psychology Program.  

I’m a researcher in the area of marriage and Family, a practicing clinical psychologist and curriculum developer. I’m an experienced therapist who has practiced in Kenya and California, USA. I have interacted with international and local scholars in conferences, workshops and seminars whose themes touch on a wide range of global issues, including, Marriage and Family, Child Development issues among others. I have in-depth knowledge of curriculum development ranging from under-graduate to masters and PhD programs. Similarly, I have reviewed programs for Commission for University Education as a peer reviewer at all levels (Undergraduate, Masters and PhD). I supervise both Masters and PhD level students in clinicals, projects, theses and dissertations. I have been an external examiner for Kenyatta University, Methodist University and

Uganda Christian University, in Uganda. I’m the Chief Editor of “African Journal of Clinical Psychology (AJCP).”

I hold a Clinical Psychology Doctorate degree from Rosemead School of Psychology in California, USA and two Master of Arts degrees in Counseling Psychology and Clinical Psychology from USIU and Rosemead School of psychology (CA, USA), respectively. I hold an undergraduate degree in Education from the University of Nairobi, Kenya. I’m the Coordinator of PhD in Clinical Psychology program at Daystar University
